Description of Accommodation
Moulin de Latreille is a 13th century water-mill generating it's own electricity from the river that runs through it. Situated on the banks of the River Ouysse, known to the locals as the 'emerald river' for its' sparkling clarity and colour. Initially built by Cistercian monks, we have restored the interior of the mill with a spirit of simplicity, comfort and a contemporary twist. Surrounded by totally unspoilt countryside, Latreille offers you the opportunity to relax and unwind in this rural idyll.
Nestled in the 'Parc Naturel Regional des Causses du Quercy', a rural area of natural outstanding beauty and one of the richest historical regions of France.
Latreille is surrounded by the beautiful medieval market towns of Sarlat, Gourdon and Martel. Rocamadour, just 20 minutes away, is one of the must-see gems of this area and deservedly the second most visited religious sites in France.
The Grottes (Caves) of Lacave, Cougnac and Le Peche Merle are not far away, the latter having magnificent cave paintings.
The next Mill up river from Latreille is Moulin de Cougnaguet, a fortified mill-house and museum . It has an ancient but operational water-powered flour-mill, and it still makes its own flour. A tour of the mill is highly recommended.
This region of France has a remarkable number of pre-historic sites, medieval towns, chateaux and gardens, all set in breathtaking scenery.

Latreille is nestled in it's own magical setting, a vast wild flower meadow on one side, and mill pond on the other. There are walks along the river on both sides, hammocks are set up in the garden by the river for total relaxation to watch the kingfishers go by. There is also a rowing boat available for the more adventurous.
If you are interested in the birds and butterflies of the region, there is the most amazing selection around the months of May/June, when the wild flower meadows are at their best.
